Over the next few months, we are diving into the compelling Old Testament books of Ezra and Nehemiah!

They were most likely originally written as one book, but now make up two back-to-back books in our Old Testaments. They capture the story of God's people in a critical juncture in Biblical history. God's people had been in exile for 70 years. Now God was restoring his people back to the land, back to the city of Jerusalem, and inviting them to rebuild.

But as we'll see, the purpose was much bigger than rebuilding a temple, or a wall, or a city. It was about building the people of God.

Like every book of the Bible, there is a deep mine worth excavating to see the glorious treasures God has put here. Since it’s from almost 2500 year ago, it might require a little digging!

To help get you started, we wanted to pull together some accessible online resources to better help you understand Ezra and Nehemiah.

This is probably my #1 recommended resource for these books. It was originally published as a book in print here if you want a paperback copy, but later published for free online. This study gives excellent context, thoughtful questions, and meaningful connections to the Gospel. While our sermon series won’t exactly follow this 12 week outline of the book, you could still follow along with us through this study.
